Lighthouse
by Jerry Marella
A photo of the Cape May NJ lighthouse from one of the ponds below the hawk watch platform. There are still a few places to get down to water level at the lighthouse, but for the most part all of the ponds and pools are overgrown at the meadow and the trails are elevated. Good for bird watchers; not so good for photographers. I was at water level photographing ducks and swans when I noticed the lighthouse reflecton with the hawk watch platform at the top of the frame. I thought it was different from all of the other lighthouse and platform photos that I've seen.
I'm not sure of the balance between the reflection, dead space, and platform. I was set for moving animals so the techs are a little strange for a scenic.
Comments and critiques are appreciated.

2 commentsJerry, I think this works well, but also find the balance off as you've mentioned. As most of the image processing seems good, I would play with two options of balance improvement, at least from my POV. Both ideas are merely crops down on the image. I find the small amount of lighthouse at the top a real eye draw. With that said, a crop down to just a couple feet over the people's heads on the platform works for me. Or to eliminate all of that you could take it to the top of the grasses just in front of the platform. Either look I think improves some balance to me anyway. The lighthouse reflection is the main scene IMO.
A very peaceful scene overall.....
This is certainly a different approach. The usual shot would show both the lighthouse and the reflection. Showing only the reflection is a bold approach. it made me do a double take because I did not see what I expected.
