One more from that one spectacular night on Lofoten islands, Norway. Shot around midnight. It was some of the most crazy red I've ever seen. I was wearing a black coat and black gloves, but when looking at my hands, I saw soft purply red...

Very nice, Basil. I've seen color like this a few times in the Sierra, and you've captured that feeling here quite well. The tones and details look great.

Who knows? wink Maybe. Maybe Greenland. Sanja right next to Lofoten also looks interesting. But the Nordics certainly established themselves as a great destination for future travels.

The details really come out in the big image.  Sweet. Amazing how the colors and detail shows up so clearly in the lake.

Lovely image, Basil, and that light is special. I thought the bright rock on the left might be your tent from the thumbnail but I see that the road and distant houses got this into the M&N gallery.

I was in the Lofotens last month for a week of pretty crummy weather so I didn't get anything close to this light-wise. It kind of shocked me though how difficult it was to photgraph there without having the "hand of man" evident in some way particularly with all of the power lines running every which way through the hills. The sheer number of habitations was also a surprise. We had a little better luck in the Vesteralens with the light and weather and some first-time aurora viewing. The arctic light, as shown in this image, is uniquely intense. We didn't make it to Sanja unfortunately.

Basil,
You have wonderfully captured the crazy colors the sun makes at certain times of the day.  It has a great sense of perspective.  I feel like I can just walk into the shot.

Another killer mountainscape with great light, Basil!  The exposure is perfect and the colors are very natural. I'm particularly impressed with the natural colors of the snow, both in direct light and in the shadows.  The large version is required viewing for this scene as it really provides a strong 'presence' as if you were there.  Very nicely done! devil
