Hi, I've actually posted this picture before but It 'disappeared' because I forgot to tick the correct box :-( Since it is one of 5 of my pictures in an exhibition in New York (Agora Gallery, 3rd to the 24th November) I thought I would post it again.  I will be at the reception on the 5th with my partner and would love to meet up if anybody is around.

See here for the Invitation

The Image is taken with the Sigma SD1 M and the Meyer Görlitz 135mm Orestor (F2.8)

A larger view can be seen here.

Cheers, Mark

Congrats on your gallery showing! I like the colors, the Lily of The Valley, but I think there is some unnecessary tension between the flower stalk and the "v" of leaves behind it.cool

Interesting play on light, dark, shapes, and lines, Mark.  I can see the tension that Phil was talking about - but I guess whether that was good or bad depends on what you were going for.  Interesting photo.

Hi Phil, Nathan, many thanks for the feedback. It would of course be 'easy' enlightened to say this was 'exactly the effect I wanted' but that was not so (at least not lying on the forest floor with the camera hanging at ground level upsidedown from an inverted tripod).  I took quite a few shots and ultimately this one gave me the best compositional form for the two background leaves and background.  Moving to the left and thus the flower stem to the right (and thus separating leaf from flower more) reduced for me the gap between the two stems too much which then meet much higher in the image (with significantly less highlight on the stem edges going into the dark background) and / or just didn't work so well with the form of the two background leaves ... so in the end i preferred to live with a certain tension between flower and leaf than it just being compositionally not what i intended ... cool ( But certainly not the last time I will shoot this motif enlightened )
Cheers, Mark

Thanks for your explanation and your narrative on how you shot this, Mark.  I think considering what you had to go through you made a great compromise.
