Sunset Burrowing Owl

Last June I was able to capture this image of a Burrowing Owl at sunset.  I had been shooting these little guys for a couple of hours and was about ready to pack it in when this guy got up on this perch that was high enough to allow me to capture the sunset colors with him in the foreground.

Very nice atmosphere Keith, love that one can still make out the details in the bird. Nicely executed ! devil, Hans

Glorious susnet colors, Keith.  The exposure on the owl looks just about optimal for the situation.

truly a stunning and incredible image, Keith.  to get that sky and that much visible on the bird is just great.  only nit for me is that there seems to be a little bit of a halo around the bird's head.

Wow!  This one sure gets your attention!  An impressive sunset background and I too am quite surprised that you were able to obtain a decent amount of detail on the owl.  Very nice, Keith!

Sunset makes this image for me.  Nice of the owl to get up on the perch for you.

This is a special frame Keith, the owl is placed perfectly. The sunset colors are beautiful. Well done!  (I'm curious if you tried any with fill flash).  devil

Keith, how gorgeous!  This is the most unique image I have ever seen of a burrowing owl.  I'm used to seeing them photographed around their burrow - not in a bush.  And that sunset - you just couldn't ask for a better background.  Very good job photographing what I'm sure was a difficult scene to capture properly.devil

Stunning color and moody light Keith.  Nice positioning of the owl in the frame.  I just wonder what he is looking at or what he heard.....

Fine capture though somehow I'd like to see a little brighter background behind the bird's head to set off the subject that much more.
