Zinnia

I didn't care for the bg I got on this one, so I just isolated the bloom and darkened the bg to black.  It must be fall, the "fire" colors are starting to appeal to me more.

5Diii, 180mm f3.5L, tripod, 2s delay, f/18, 1/200, iso800, aperture priority, pattern metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 11MP.  Taken October 11th at 1:05 pm under filtered sun.

I appreciate your comments on the clover and look forward to your input on this image.

Thanks,

Really good detail throughout on this, Dennis. The harsh light is a bit of a take away, but I think it is acceptable. I like your choice of blacking out the BG, although fading the black to let a little detail come through might be interesting (unless it was particularly obnoxious).

Certainly a very colourful image Dennis. Zinnias have been popular on this gallery this year and have been an attraction to butterflies. It's a very much an "in the face" shot and works very well with that dark background. Very sharp throughout. Graham

I like the colors and especially the delicate stamen.  I wish that the light was just a bit softer.

I agree with the previous comments. I like the color, composition and background. I also agree that the light or color needs to be toned down just a bit.

I love the way you've composed this, Dennis - the flower centre almost leaping at you from the upper corner !  Excellent detail in the centre, and the black ( not my preferred bg either ) works well enough I think against the warm colours.  Like Nathan I find the light a touch strong - but I guess that was how it was !
