Starry Starry Night

I have recently gotten interested in night sky photography. For my recent trip to YNP and GTNP, I purchased a manual focus Rokinon 14mm f2.8 lens. This lens, while very reasonably priced, was highly rated for night sky photography. I took this image at the Oxbow bend of the Snake River in GTNP around 2:45 AM. I have lots to learn and I will be the first to admit that the image is not perfect. However, I wanted to share the image, if nothing else, to possibly spark some interest in this most challenging and amazing area of photography.

As always, comments and critiques welcome.

Nicely done!  Little noise...this cleaned up nicely.   I too am enjoying learning night sky photography.  A challenge and inspiring.  Well done capture of the Milky Way.

Really beautiful shot Jerry. I like that you were able to get some reflections out of the water.

Jerry, this is a fine start in nightime photography.  Beautiful job on the Milky Way, plus there's enough detail in the foreground (particularly along the left) to keep it interesting.  The star field looks great.  With your super wide, even at 29s, there's minimal streatching of the stars.  The trailing of the stars depends on the exposure time and the focal length, the longer the lens, the faster you can see streaking.  There are times when getting long streaks (and they become circular as you point your camera at the North Star) works very well also.

Very nice effort, Jerry. The dust lanes and the stars look great. I also like that you got a nice reflection in the river.

This is pretty nice, Jerry.  I picked up the Rokinon 14mm last Christmas and used it for my first night shots over labor day.  I like the lens a lot and use it quite often.  I'm a bit of a night owl, so I'm trying to learn more about night photography and thus far have had limited success. I think you did an admiral job with foreground which, for me, can be the hardest part to get right.
