I went out this afternoon in mostly cloudy weather to see what I could find in the floral department. This was one of my favorites. I couldn't frame it the way I wanted to without going back for the extension tubes but I got close enough for a 50% crop to do the trick.
5Diii, 180mm f/3.5 macro, f/5, 1/400, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering. After cropping, I used Topaz Detail to bring out a bit more texture-probably should have stopped down just a bit more. Taken in the back yard at 1:39 this afternoon.
I really appreciate all the comments on my Lupine image and I look forward to your input on this one.

4 commentsOrange is everything here. I like the comp and the detail as shown, although I agree a little more DOF would have been better.
As you mention, more DOF would be nice but the orange wash is quite vibrant and eye-catching
Makes a nice change from the birds Dennis. I don't find it particularly easy to find new compositions of flowers because they don't eat peanuts! I like the orange colour in this flower, very pleasing but it wpould have looked even better if the centre structure had been sharper. Graham
