For a while known as the Common Moorhen, the U.S. population has again been split from its European relatives and elevated to full species status.
Papago Park is mostly a series of shallow ponds surrounding the Phoenix Zoo and is heavily used by family groups who feed the ducks, so close approach to most of the wild species living there can be easy.

8 commentsExcellent shot, Rich. It's rare to get them out of the water. Love the feet and pose.
Excellent image quality, Richard and a nice catchlight. I like the good look at the feet and the angle formed by the rock. I do find myself wishing for a bit more room on hte left, but I don't know what was over there.
Very nice Richard. Little more room on the left and top if you have it.
Very nice pose you caught here, I like the subject centered comp Richard.
Large view looks excellent, no nits
Great details in the feathers Richard ! I have the impression the image could use some clockwise rotation, just a little though. Otherwise fine as posted ! Cheers, Hans
Always well taken, never over stated, with good detail. Typical Richard Ditch! An uncommonly good example of the Common Gallinule.
Love the colors, excellent presentation. Very nice work. Ray
