Grizzly Bears resting on a small tidal island in the Great Bear Rainforest. The day was wet with constant rain and only a small amount of time without the ever present rain!

Tide was coming in quickly, and would submerge this small island soon. There were Three Cubs,  but only two in this capture.

Nikon D610 with Nikon 200-400mm F4 lens VR on active, Taken @ 400mm, hand held from a floating zodiac boat,  1/250, F5.6/ ISO 2800, One pass NR,  about 95% full frame.

Comments Appreciated.

Bill: very nicely captured and must be seen large to be appreciated. I like the strong greens, the texture if the bears' coats and their observant nature. They are all welll placed against the dark oof background. Richard

Nice moment...the alert scan by mama bear...shows the need to always hover over the cubs... and the cubs seems so blissful.  The large version was a treat to see.  Well done!

I really like the moment captured here Bill. This really gives you a feel for the family life of these cubs. Very nicely done.

Outstanding interaction between the three bears.  I especially like how the cub at the back is peering at the camera. May

Hi Bill,

Tons of attitude in this one on top of the athestics (rich colors and amazing BG). Really like it.

Cheers,

Hisham.

Super.  One tiny, subjective suggestion is to consider a crop on left side to somewhere in front of the cub's back leg.  I think that will make it feel less like an accidental cutting of the animal and will pull us further into the scene.  I best like the one peeking over the other's back!

Hello Lon... great to get your feedback... yes the cubs do make this capture !  I see where you mentioned to crop and think that too would look OK...  Enjoyed my time with these guys and can still remeber the moment very clearly.. even  now !

A superb shot, Bil!  The light, clarity and mood are all excellent in this.  I like that you have enough DOF to include decent detail on the cub in the back.   The large version is particularly impresseive as it puts almost uncomfortably close!  devil

Hello Gary,... Great to get your feel on this. Never felt threatened during this 3/4 hr. encounter! Mother bear seemed relaxed with our closeness and quite movements within the zodiac. She was ever vigilent to the surroundings , listening and keeping the little guys in view at all times!
