I am always surprised when the shorebirds decide a hulking guy behind a tripod squatting in the open on the edge of a pond is not a threat and come in close like this to feed.
More from the archives as I organize a large backlog of unedited images. But at least I’m making progress!

Good timing with the eye contact, Rich. I'm looking forward to the SB's and godwits to come into Gulfport.
Great job done on the techs and winning the bird's trust
. It's full frame, however a little more space would have been welcome - however that's personal. At any rate a great shot ! Cheers, Hans
I like the detail and diagonal angle of the bird makes for a nice comp. I do find myself wishing for a bit more room as well, but if you're at full frame, not much you can do about it in the field sometimes.
Love how the dowitcher is keeping its eye on you. I like the nice low angle. Great work. May
Killer shot, Rich. The birst is going about his business, but also keeping an eye on you. Sweet detail and light.
Lovely image Richard - superb feeding pose and awesome light
Very cool image Richard. I agree that a little more room all around would be nice but what are you gonna do. Nice low POV and the eye contact are great.
The large view looks very nice Rich. For this closeup I would prefer to see a bit less space behind, & more of the concentric circles at the beak if you had it..But I see this is FF.
Well done
Love the light! Excellent detail and a very nice cool background. Ray
