WC #704 A large part of my life is devoted to helping restore natural areas and I love the feeling of kinship with the other beings on this planet. We feed the birds pretty much year around and it's commonin the winter to have Chickadees feed from our hands. This summer we had an unusually large number of Pine Siskins and they are always pretty fearless, so we decided to see if they'd feed from our hands. I had up to four at a time on my hand, but I liked this image the best. I used a prefocused camera with a wireless remote in my left hand.
5Diii, 70-200 f4 ISL @ 150mm, tripod, f/4, 1/320, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped this one from a vertical original to 7.72 MP to make the bird a bit larger in the frame.
Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

10 commentswell done, nice side lighting. It is amazing how fearless the bird was. I like your expression.
Love your connection to the finch and overall presentation, I think I see the bird smilin' back at ya too Dennis
Since your goal is to show a kinship to other beings on the planet well.. In this you have hit a home run!!
That's great, Dennis! I've tried to get the birds coming to my backyard feeder to accept me sitting/standing 5-6 feet from the feeder with at best limited success. We get pine siskins during the occasional hard winter, but not routinely. This is a fine look at both you and the bird and having you looking at the bird is a nice touch. How special!
Wonderful photo, Dennis - and perfect post for this week's WC!
Dennis, great to see this post of you here in the WC. An excellent scene of you doing some thoughtful hand feeding of these small birds......
The quality & detail of this image is wonderful, including the hat tag of course....
Hi Dennis,
Wonderful shot of you and the hungry siskin. No nits here

Very nice, touching. TFS
I like the way the narrow DOF draws attention to you and the bird. Even more amazing considering that it's a picture of yourself and you had to plan out ahead of time where you were going to be placed in the image. The expression on your face says it all, about your care for the bird.
Well executed plan for this WC with excellent results.
Congratulations on the WP . . .
P.S. Look'n forward to our spring trip together.
