Another shot from Texas last winter. This one at Padre Island National Seashore south of Port Aransas. I liked this one for the simple composition, nice pose and almost monochrome palette.
5Diii, 300 mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, hand held, f/5.6, 1/3200, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering, +2/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 13.4MP. Slight sharpening, cantrast boost and saturation on the bird to make it pop a bit better. Also brightened the eye. Taken at 12:22 pm on February 22nd under hazy skies.
I appreciate the comments on the Teal and look forward to your input on this image.
Thanks,

8 commentsNice overall image Dennis, I like the subtle colors and the bird looking at the camera a little. Well done ! Cheers, Hans
Great active pose and POV, I like the surf line behind, and shadow cast front.
Nice job under hazy skies, I like the muted colors as well
This is a bird that I can photograph all day and still not get enough. I like the position, and the wave action gives it a real sense of place. The color and exposure make it look almost painterly. Great shot!
Good job of getting down on this one Dennis. The image nicely portrays a sense of action. I like the muted colors.
I love the mood of this. It really makes me miss the coast stuck here in the AZ desert.
Love the stride! Nice low angle, excellent catch here Dennis. Ray
Really nice surf shot. As others have said it has a great moody feel to it. Even though its not well defined I'm glad you included the entire reflection in it. The soft light worked well for you Dennis.
