Lee Vining Canyon, Eastern Sierra.

Tachihara 4x5
Fujinon 180mm
Astia 100F
10/06/2007

This image was made on an atypical frigid morning for early October--it was 17 degrees F. It was made the same day as the two images in Paul's recent thread in Weekly Challenge. A fun, but chilly time was had by all!

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

Cool...snow on fall Aspen leaves.  Yes the description of that day's events sounded like a challenge for the hardy, but I think most photogs fit into the hardy category.  Love the backlit glow and how it emphasizes that central Aspen plus the dusting of snow both on the leaves and the ground tells of a good day's adventure.

Great color contrast here, Preston. I hope to see fall color in the snow someday.

I find this is a solid image with nice yellow pop nicely accentuated by the snow. The palette definitely has the Astia look to it.

I think I was just down the road from you with the dogs when you were setting this one up?

Preston, as a follow up to our recent and ongoing discussion I'm not sure what to say other then this image deserves some solid review points just on technical aspects.......wink

For me the light is gorgeous and provides excellent viewing quality. As always Astia is perfect for the yellow in the aspen leaves. Bringing all things together is the addition of the carpet of snow surrounding the trees as well as the dusting on the leaves, limbs & trunks. Another item with regard to the snow is how crisp and clean it is. No doubt brought out by the super light and excellent post processing........laugh

I do see an optional idea with the smallest of crops from the top just to tighten the view slightly toward the FG area, but not necessary beyond a different POV on my part.....enlightened

btw: we can only hope the sierra range enjoys this type of winter this year as we saw during those several years back then......sad

Preston, This is really nice! I totally enjoy looking at it and would not change a thing. The light is wonderful and the snow adds just the perfect touch. Beautiful image and work!

Beautiful colors and conditions. I am also enjoying the high vantage point from where this appears to have been photographed.
