I really don't know anything about astro photography, but I thought I'd take a crack at the moon last night. I can see that there is a lot to learn before anyone can become proficient at this kind of photography. I have to admit, I liked being out there photographing the sky, and I'd like to do this more often. I only pray that I don't need a $10,000 telescope to get some of the neat shots that I see posted.
This is obviously a composite, and there are probably many, many astrological things wrong with the placement of the moons and the way I've created the final file. But, I've posted this in POP for a reason. 1.The moon is an object, 2.It has a place (space), 3.And if you count the "man in the moon" I have a person, which gives me the hat trick!
I was using a 5D3 and a Tamaron 150-600 at 600 so my best aperture was 6.3. ISO ranged from 400 for the bright moon to 1600 for the bloody part at shtterspeeds from 1/500 to 1.3sec.
This is a set of photos that I can play endlessly with and come up with different configurations.
Suggestions, comments, critiques, ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

7 commentsI don't see anything wrong with this, the placement, spacing or exposure. I think you did an excellent job!
Ditto Luke's comment - well done!
I think you've done a fine job Jerry, this is great!
I knew this night was coming, but missed out again.
Anyway, I'd be very happy with it. The only suggestion I can think of is a variation that gives the progression a slight arc..
Glad you were able to see the moon. Good exposure and composition. Only suggestion you might want to check spelling! TFS
I also think this is well done. The moon has good detail asd the composite looks good. Nice job.
Well executed idea with excellent results.
Congratulations on the WP . . .
