Still going back in the files from last winter. This is yet another from the wonderful day I had at the Salineno preserve near Falcon State Park in Texas. The range map shows this species just poking into South Texas, but there were severat at the feeders here. They were particularly fond of the peanut butter that was smeared on the trees.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/5.6, 1/320, iso 1250, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, +2/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6 and cropped to 13MP. Can't remember all the processing steps at this point, but looking at the original, it looks like I applied some extra blur to the bg. Taken at 9:40 am on a cloudy, drizzly morning.
I appreciate all the comments on my Pelican post and look forward to your input on this one.
Thanks,

8 commentsHi Dennis,
Looks pretty good. The BG is soft enough as to not be a distraction. The thrasher has a nice pose and the eye looks sharp.......................Jim
Nice - thrashers can be difficult to get out in the open. I like the soft light and the natural colors. I'd tighten this up some more if the image can take it.
Like the background and the pose -- thrasher looks like he poised for some action
Everythings working for you here Dennis, great pose, background and perch. Detail in the Thrasher looks good and the soft light is very nice.
Seems like one of those birds that seem a little dull at first glance, but once you see them as detailed as in your shot (especially the larger version is a must see) you can only enjoy their beauty ! Great, Dennis !

Nice clean image Dennis. Love these birds, but I rarely get to see them (unless I go to Texas). If mine, I might crop this a bit tighter, or if you already cropped any form the bottom, move him higher in the frame. Also might add a touch of contrast and saturation to give it a little pop.
I think the color is nice in this and I typically like saturation in my images. Agree with cutting back on some of the empty space.
Sweet potrait of this handsome thrasher you have here Dennis. Great pose on a nice perch with a complimentary background.
I would be tempted to crop it a bit tighter also.
