American Goldfinch

It's nice to get birds interacting once in a while.  The season is changing and things are getting a little more active.  More woodpeckers coming out of the woods, and the land creatures are getting ready for winter. I'm hoping to get a few good photos this winter.

This pair of Goldfinches interacted quite a bit.  I'm not sure if it was a feeding display, or a fighting display.  It looked like a bit of both at times. Had to pump up the ISO a bit to stop the action.

Great detail and interaction. I really like the perch. Looks like a fight to me. The male looks guilty as sin and she looks like she is giving a real scorcher of a lecture.frown

Very nice interaction, Jerry.  I like the wing position on the male.  Is this a recent image?  Seems awfully late for full breeding plumage.  Our males out here are either gone or in winter plumage.

Thanks everyone.  Not recent, Dennis. Late spring I think.  We still have finches here and they'll stay through the winter, but will be a drab green sort of color.

Hi Jerry,

It is a great shot.  My only suggestion is to clone out a few sunflower seeds from the scene. Otherwise, composition and subject matter are very nice......................Jim

Terrific as posted. Nice interaction; strong composition. Nice detail. The yellow of the male is right on the edge.
