Wotan's Fury

by Doug Koepsel

Gallery: LandscapePosted September 8, 2015281 views15 comments

An afternoon thunderstorm moved easterly up the Grand Canyon this past weekend.  Light reflecting off high clouds behind me provided morning-like illumination on Wotan's Throne.

Nikon D810, 14-24mm @ 14mm, f/6.3, ISO 64.

This is really sweet, Doug! Dang! The color, tonality, detail, and light are near perfect. No nits, here.

The large version is a must-see!

Dynamic image Doug!  The curve of the rock and lighting make for a sweet comp.  Looks like some nasty weather back there.  Not sure you could improve upon this.  Nicely done.

The power and fury of the storm is so evident in this image, Doug! So very beautiful! Really like the composition as well.

Sweet light and what a cool place to witness the beauty of this storm, Doug. Wonderful image capturing the canyon's fury and magestic qualities. Very, very nice.

Thanks for the kind comments.  This was the one image that stuck in my mind as I drove home and it was the first to be edited.  Looks like there are some color bands in the right sky under the cloud to contend with.  I thought there was discussion of these and their causes a while back.

Doug, This is really sweet! Wonderful composition and the light and conditions you captured are just fantastic! Can't see anything I would even consider changing. devil

Extreme drama, Doug.  I like the balance of light here better than in the east rim shot.
