Last month I spent an excellent afternoon and evening with Laurent Dick and his family west of Shelter Island in Lynn Canal, in Southeastern Alaska, photographing Humpback Whales. Laurent's brother-in-law has a genius for anticipating where the whales were going to be and positioning us to have the best light.
The whales came pretty close, as photo shows. The composition attempts to show the immensity of these creatures. Within the limits of the lens I was using, at least.
Full frame. Slight adjustments to Shadows.
C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

5 commentsJim, the large file really shines and allows full appreciation of the capture. Sounds like a great opportunity that you made the best of!
Jim: a unique shot which was well seen. It looks a bit under exposed on my screen with the water trailing off the flukes appearing to be a greyish tone. Richard
The close view and your comp really succeed well in emphasizing the mass of these animals. I think this is as good as I have seen of this activity. Again, excellent composition.
Jim, I can feel the immensity, mystery and power in this one. Like your composition.
I like this a lot Jim, the light is lovely and the crop accentuates the water cascading off of the fin.
