Snipe feeding in theearly morning dew. Yet another one to bore you with! Spent a long time with these birds so might as well milk it !!
Great to watch them at close range. They rarely stop. Where they get the energy from is amazing.
Other years we have baited by blowing mealworms through a peashooter, but didn't need to this time. There was too much going on.
Before the sun got around so not so much backlight on this one. Getting to this site meant quite an expedition for me- about 20 miles !! My mate and I made the hide so that its possible to get in without putting the stuff off the site- often other waders.

10 commentsI bow.... Love it all around, John. The POV is perfect, the pose and snipe great and the dew on the greens are the icing on the cake. If one thinks about a nice way of framing a snipe, this is pretty much what one has in mind
, cheers, Hans
Nicely composed and I like the panoramic crop. Great detail and the water on the grass and beak are a nice addition.
The large version of this is impressive. Wonderful dew on the grass and beak as well as the depth of the fore and background. Well worth the effort you put in.
20 miles is quite a hike, John. More than I want to do these days. Excellent image quality and nice low angle and I like the shallow wet meadow environment.
Very nice John, no nits from me.. Go ahead & "milk it" for all you can get
Very cool shot John, The low POV is fantastic and the drip off the bill adds that extra touch.
I like this a lot John, the dewey grass, habitat and drop of water on the snipe's beak all enhance this one. The pano crop works well imo too.
John,
This is just too good, everything has been said

Thanks everyone -very much appreciated
John
This is a beauty John! A great pose in the perfect habitat, a very pleasing photo edge to edge.
