Ran a Boat Tour a few weeks back on the Coosa River from Rome, Georgia to the damn on the western end of Weiss Lake in Leesburg, Alabama. It's a nice all day run there and back with lots of side trips exploring up some of the larger creeks, the Chattooga River and the Little River that all feed the lake. Weiss Lake is a haven for birds of prey and water fowl year round and is especially active during the migratory seasons. We came across a Great White Egret roosting area with 35 to 40 birds on both sides of the river who were very accommodating to our presence. The over cast skies made for some nice lighting with the lush green shoreline and fallen pine trees making the environment unique. 80% of full frame, hand held from boat.

7 commentsThis is very nice, Mike! The environment and lighting really give me a feeling of what it was like being there. I also like the fluffed up feathers.
Very cool "in habitat" capture Mike. The large image is pretty impresive. You handled the whites perfectly. Nothing to suggest on this one.
Nice one and so much betterin in the large version.. The bird really stands out from it's surroundings ! Love it ! Hans
The larger image is gorgeous, Mike. You caught a great pose and I really like tht perch. Excellent job on the whites.
I like this because of the environment and because it is a different pose than most egret images. The colors are eye catching also.
A good ruffle pose and a great habitat that I really like. The head and chest look overly blue. You might try some desaturation there to see if it improves the tone.
Nice job on those whites, great details Mike. I like the pose and placement in the frame, interesting setting/perch too..
A real standout, well done & have a great weekend!
