I shot this backlit morning glory this morning at 9:00am. I used a shady area of the garden for the bg, and I then darkened the bg a bit more in pp. I shot some with greater dof, but I got highlights in the bg, so I went with this version. D600, 150 macro, f8, 1/1000, iso 200. Suggestions, questions, and other comments welcome. ![]()

7 commentsIt's a beauty, Scott. The limited dof works very well and I'm having a ton of fun with the from below view as it seems like an optical illusion where the base of the flower sometimes seems to pop forward and other times receeds.
Scott: Noting the optical illusion effect that Mark sees. Superbly crafted image.>=))>
The backlighting works beautifully to show the lovely color and detail in this Morning Glory and the darkened bg really makes it stand out. Very nicely done, Scott!
Scott, the first thing I caught was the optical illusion. Once that settled down, I thought this was a particularly fine illustration of a backlit MG from below. The detail and color are outstanding. For my taste, the image could be even stronger by shortening from the right to a 4:5 and cloning out the OOF leaf.
Scott - Just awesome perspective. A composition I would not have thought of for morning glory. Optical Illusion is real. I also like being able to see tiny water drops in the throat inside.
I agree with everyone, a real beauty Scott! The term it 'pops' was made for this one
And the optical illusion aspect adds a fascinating element.. It draws the viewer in.
I especially like this perspective, excellent post processing!

The colors and light are just great in this image. The flower really pops from the black background.
