I love the intricate design of the underside of these beautiful, smallish butterflies. This one is posed on a pink zinnia. The bg is a gray parking lot. I cloned out a zinnia bud and leaf in the LRC; otherwise, standard pp plus slight poster edges. American Painted Lady, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Youngstown. D600, 150 macro, f14, 1/500, iso 800.

Suggestions, questions and other comments welcome. crying

Gorgeous, Scott !  Love the non-aggressive sharpness in the flower details and especially in the head and wing of the butterfly - capturing the delicacy of the insect perfectly; nice bg too.

Hey Scott,
Don't start re-posting different versions of this composition, it's perfect as is, one of your best.
Well done . . .  devil

This is a beautiful, gentle look at this American Lady, Scott, with the back lighting really letting the details in the wings show well.  The gentle gray of the background helps nicely in setting off the subjects...(guess we photogs need more parking lots....)  The subtle pink of the flower is a fine addition as well.

I love the backlighting and the excellent detail in the butterfly!  The zinnia is a beautiful perch. The grey of the parking lot makes a nice bg.

Now that's a great use for a parking lot!  The gray makes a great background to show off both the "lady" and the flower.  Excellent view of both wind surfaces, with the DOF just right to display the far dorsal surface without making it so sharp to distract from the beautiful ventral surface.  Very graceful pose and perfect amount of background.

Scott,

I've using parking lots for bg's and they come out very nice when blurred.  Well done with the orange, gray, and pink for the composition.  Butterfly's eye is nice and sharp.............................................Jim

A splendid portrait for a beautiful butterfly. The wings seem the work of a fashion designer for colors and the designs. I love the photo.

Great BF picture. "Painted Lady" is also a nickname for a Victorian house painted in six or seven different colors. Well shown against the neutral (parking lot) background.cool

Scott, nice shot of an American Lady, that single white dot on the dorsal and ventral sides of the forewing separate the American from the Painted Lady.

Did a nice job on the background, love the colors.
