I found this Yellow Bellied Marmot family living in an old tree in the Grand Tetons. They were as curious about me as I was about them. Nikon D700 Nikon 200-400 F10 1/500 ISO400
Comments and critiques please. Looking forward to your opinion. Look hard the whole family is there.

6 commentsAlways glad to see these guys in photos! Nicely taken. I know it is neat to have all of them in the same photo, but I do think the 3 on the right by themselves is a stronger image. I would try cropping to just the 3 and a bit darker. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Andrew,
What a great find and a wonderful setting, you have captured a lot of interesting elements that combine to make this a very enjoyable image to view. I agree with John's idea as to the cropping to eliminate the two subjects behind the limb, they seem to be more of a distraction than an asset to the overall composition as is. The overall comp does appear too bright on my monitor as well as being over sharpened just a bit. This image is well worth a little additional work to become a beautiful wall-hanger IMO.
Well done on capturing such a perfect moment . . .
Hey Andrew,
I keep coming back to this image because it is so good. The overall comp as is has so much going for it and the fallen tree has so much character that it is as much the subject as the Marmots IMO. With this in mind the cropping idea does not seem as good as first thought and a better option might be to simply clone out the parts of the two Marmots showing from behind the limb. Just a thought !
Here it is a bit darker and without the partial marmot. Better ??
I prefer the repost. Was this taken on Pilgrim creek road?
Cheers,
Hisham
Neat image and setting! I agree that the tree has lots of character, but overall I think this translates best as a vertical with just the three right side individuals. The repost feels like enhancement.
