Tufted Coquette

Another beauty from our visit to Trinidad & Tobago last February. I was amazed at all the dramatic color wrapped in this tiny package of a hummingbird (it is tied for the second smallest hummingbird in the world). Although these beauties are fairly common, it took a bit of persistent patience to make good photos of them. Fortunately they only feed on the smallest of blooms and if you put in enough time among the flowers they like to feed on you will be rewarded with plenty of photographic opportunities.

Canon 7DII; 600mm & 25mm extension tube; 1/320; f7.1; Gitzo Tripod; RRS Ballhead; manual exposure set for ambiet light, fill flash set at -1 stop.

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Hi Ken,

Nice colors and the raised top knort is pretty cool. The BG is nice, but you could drop the saturation of the greens down a hair.  Other than that, it is a wall worthy imagedevil.....................Jim

I have never seen this species before Ken and think it is one of the coolest hummers I have seen, so thanks for posting. As far as the image goes, nice techs and I like how the perch stems cross. Nice work
