Pollen Prison

This poor little hoverfly, covered with pollen, could not escape his morning glory prison. Each time he would try to climb out, he'd fall back in, only to be covered with more pollen. I watched and photographed him for a half hour or so during which he made at least 20 falled attempts to get free. I finally got a blade of grass, which he climbed onto, and I freed him from his pollen prison. I was sure he'd grant me 3 wishes (a new D750 to be wish one), but he just flew away. cheeky    Fellows Riverside Gardens, D600, 150 macro, iso 640, 1/400, f16. Suggestions, questions, and other comments welcome.  crying

Ungrateful little 'bugger' I'd say!sad

I especially like the subject right down in front where it needs to be, this works very well Scott.

Great sense of the hoverflies tiny size, set against the much larger 'Pollen Prison' too.

Excellent details when one can take a pollen count as wellenlightened

Excellent!devil

Interesting description, Scott, as it looks like the hover fly is standing on an edge where taking off would not be a problem.  How neat to have observed it's tribulations and then come to the rescue.  How ungrateful that you didn't get even one wish!  The positioning of the flower is great and the details in the fly are amazing.  I also like the scattered bits of pollen on the flower.  It's a fun story and a great image to back it up.

Scott: If you had kissed her all your wishes would have been granted. Alas, opportunity lost. She could also have been miffed that you took so long to rescue her while pointing that giant cannon at her. At least you got a terrific image out of the encounter. Many kudos. >=))>

Scott - Very beautiful (specially the pollen laden Hover adds to the overall beauty immensely) - great placement in the frame for the center of the flower. I have often found that these tiny insects work on the pollen restlessly making it difficult to shoot.

The fly is very sharp. I really like the composition and colors.

Scott, I like the composition and colors. The morning glory looks like a huge hole. Interesting story, good title and lovely shot!

Beautiful. I love a messy pollen cover hoverfly or bee. What a life of pollen wallow they live, eh?

A very appealing storyline to this, Scott !  Superb composition of the flower and the fly, especially with its pollen coating, is placed just beautifully, walking out of the fiery centre !
