Morning Glory

Every year they can't resist planting morning glorys in the kids area of local public garden, and every year I can't resist shooting them. I like the backlit translucent center in this image (natural morning light).  D600, 150 sigma macro, tripod, f22, 1/250, iso 400.  crying

Those deep blue Morning Glorys are irresistable! Absolutely nothing to complain about here. Great color and texture. And I like your plane of focus.devil

Hi Scott,

Pretty cool backlighting--the center of the flower glows. No nits from me.............................................Jim

Scott - Its hard not to make these Morning Glories sing photographically. Excellent light and great leading lines - the foreground too (which is usually the nemesis in photos like these) is also nicely covered within the DOF.

"Its hard not to make these Morning Glories sing photographically."

True enough, Ram, but, like many flowers, only when the conditions are right. They have a "deep throat" that generally requires stopping down, but they blow around like crazy in the tinest breeze which can make stopping down difficult, at least w/o ramping up the iso. Too much sun, and they become quite contrasty. But in overcast light, they lose their pop. Finally, they only bloom in the morning. I've probably trashed 25 for every one I've processed and saved. So, IMO, they make for a dramatic presentation when the conditions are right, but they can be plenty challenging too.  crying

Scott: Reminds me of some of Nathan's work with morning glories. Marvelous light indeed and frame filling fantastic. >=))>

Very nice image Scott!  Beautiful light, excellent colors, and I love the detail in the stamens.  The POV and comp are just right.

It is difficult to get the detail in the center and still retain it in the flower petal.  Nicely done!

Love how the morning light radiates up & outward along the blue petals, an excellent closeup comp Scott.

Very nice detail, f/22 was just the ticket..

Well done!!devil

Morning Glories are lovely and you're really showing this one off well, Scott.  That glow from the center makes this feel like it is its own light source.

Gorgeous, Scott.  I love the composition here especially.  It's always a challenge to decide where to place the pistils/stamens and how to use the petals effectively (shallow dof, deeper, capturing curved edges or not, etc.).  Looks to me like you made every decision perfectly here.  I can see this on a wall!

This is really beautiful, Scott! Those yellow parts in the center peeking out from the blue flower looks really great.

Well done. Beautiful color and the lighting really makes the shot for me. I wish more of the petals were in focus, but it works as is.

Scott, I love this! All the lines just pull you right in to the focal point, and those contrasting colors are great. I like that the petals in the foreground are just a little bit soft, it creates a nice transition into the perfectly detailed stamens. It adds just a little bit of depth to an otherwise almost abstract image.
