At least that's what I think it is.  It fits the description and the call was a single tzeeeet which seems to only fit this bird for my location.  Any Empidonax gurus out there are welcome to correct me.  My wife had been out to our local preserve that morning scouting for Tansy Ragwort and had seen quite a few of these hawking from a downed tree, so I went out in the evening to see what I could do.  I'm planning on hitting it tomorrow morning to see if I can get some better light.

7dii, Sigma 150-600 contemporary at 562mm, hand held, f/6.3, 1/320, iso 1250, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 stop compensation (a mistake).  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 10MP.  I was tempted to crop it even closer to reduce the oof section of the branch at the bottom, but I still wanted to keep the clump of moss just inside the right edge and that would have made the bird too centered (decisions, decisions...).  Taken at our local nature preserve at 7:41 pm on July 24th under cloudy skies.

I appreciate your comments on my last Siskin post and look forward to your input on this one.

Thanks,

Sweet pose on the little Flycatcher, Dennis. The perch is a little heavy in contrast, but that is what was there. Both perch and bird stand out well against the soft and muted BG.cool

HI Dennis

Nice framing of the Flycatcher.  The detail and color work well together.

I noticed a little processing anomaly in the form of an extra line just above the back.  Here's a repost of the reprocessed image.

I like this bird in habit image Dennis.  Love the pose and that cool perch.  The brighter parts of the background are a little distracting and may benefit from being toned down.  I think that is a good bet calling it a Pacific slope, but apparently the voice is the only true identifier.

Great pose you captured of this fly-catcher in its habitat Dennis. I really like that perch. I think the oof leaves left of the bird add a nice bit of interest to background. Although I like the clump of moss on the rght, I would be tempeted to crop it also, maybe just a tad off the top too.

Love the composition with the big mossy perch. Wonderful pose from the Flycatcher.  Ray
