Leaving Utah

OK, one last shot from Canyonlands and the iconic Candlestick Tower on our last morning there before heading to Colorado NM for ao few days. I chose to focus attention on the bush on the cliff edge in the foreground by blurring the tower and canyons beyond in post. The light was a bit harsh at 9 AM but I had to wait until the bush came out from the shadow of an adjacent rock formation.

ISO-200, 1/50 sec, f/20, 123 mm.

I like the thought here, Dave.  I think isolating the lone bush and blurring the background could definately help tell the story of leaving such beautiful country after an inspiring visit.  I think one thing is holding it back from that message is the clutter around the bush.  Might take some involved cloning to clean up,  but may be worth it.   Anyway my 2 cents.  I've enjoyed your images from Canyonlands and I hope you had an equally productive trip to Colorado and New Mexico.

I like the idea, Dave, but I must admit, that the tower grabs my eye because it's so dominant. I think that if the bush were higher in the frame, this would be more effective. I do like the light and the color.

Congratulations on your recent "Eroding Reds" Weekly Pick!

Have a great time in CO and NM, and be safe.

Dave:

A good way to handle less than optimum light. Makes me miss the red rock country!

Sorry Gary but I've got newer stuff to work on and that amount of cloning will be too tedious. cool

Hmmm, didn't really try that angle, Preston, in order to minimize the amount of yucky sky. (I tweaked the sky color in post quite a bit from dusty yellow-gray to blue.) The compositional thought here was to have the shadow of the tower behind the bush so that there was some visual separation light-wise.
