Hey Morkel,
Yep, this little (or not so little really) dude seems to be struttin' his stuff! Love that upturned hind foot - interesting how such a small detail can change the feel of a shot (and in this case influence how we perceive the confidence and attude of the subject). Besides the 'tude, I love the texture on its skin - the angle of the light is just perfect to showcase that! That hide gave you a great shooting angle...
You probably didn't notice them () but there's a few other guys in the background. Some might argue they are a minor distraction (assuming they noticed them!) - tho' they certainly make the area look like it might be productive for photography!
Cheers...
Brad

Morkel,
A nice young Elephant with good detail, unfortunately the background Giraffe spoil it for me. This is often a problem with busy waterholes

Thanks Brad and Ken
I love the giraffes in the BG.
I am so tired of "clean" near-sterile wildlife images, I want images that tell better stories...the story of waterholes in Etosha is a myriad of animals milling about to slake their thirst. And the telephoto compression makes you do a double-take on the size perspective. ;)

Morkel,
An interesting theory, in this case I could perhaps live with the two on the left hand side . I agree that Etosha is often a case of busy waterholes, but I prefer these images to include everything with some form of DOF therby conveying the nature of the waterholes and their use by a multitude of animals, which is obviously not the case here where the focus is on the subject of the image.
