Not that we've needed any warming around here this summer. The Crocosmia seems tobe one of the few flowers really enjoying the heat and dryness. This is more of a garden shot than a hummingbird image, but I liked it partially because it does keep the hummingbird in a proper size perspective more than most of the shots I take of them. This was probably taken from about tthree times the distance of the two I've posted recently.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/6.3, 1/800, iso 1000, aperture priority, pattern metering, no compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped a bit from the top and right for composition. Final size is 16.9 MP. Taken at 6:17 am on July 8th.
I really appreciate your input on the last two hummer images and look forward to your thought on this one.
Thanks,

4 commentsI love this Dennis. The composition, the soft light, the habitat, the colors. It all works for me. For me, one of the best images I've seen. I need to try and do more like this one.
This is one of your best. The lighting and colors are especially good. I have a lot of Crocosmia (Lucifer) and find it very difficult to capture that red with accuracy. You have done so. nit: The tip of the bloom at bottom middle is a bit distracting to me. Excellent image!
Hi Dennis
I like the framing and color, on my screen it looks like the highlinghts could come down a dit. Nice job.
