Black Oystercatcher

Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4, handheld
f8, 1/800, ISO800

Kachemak Bay, Alaska.

75% of full frame. Adjustments to Levels, Highlights and selective sharpening of bird. I find this species to be a bit tough to expose, but this was a cloudy day with light drizzle, which helped a lot.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Excellent job on the exposure, Jim.  Superb detail in the dark plumage and that bill is an outrageous orange.  BTW, thanks for chiming in on the ID of my gull, I was hoping you would.

Great job exposing this scene Jim. Excellent detail and a very nice composition too.

Hi Jim

Nice work on the exposer, the blank and beak came out nicely.

Jim,

We have our own version of this here in SA (and Namibia) so I know how difficult it is to get a good image.

Stunning image of a beautiful bird. I love the detail in the foreground and the wave in the background. Thanks for sharing this one.

Beautiful detail in the blacks here Jim, the cloudy light certainly helped with that.  If it were mine I would crop the wave cresting from the top because I don't really like the squarish crop and it makes the image a bit cleaner.  devil
