Eroding Reds

Been a few weeks, primarily due to a still-under-warranty monitor crapping out and the repair process. C'est la vie moderne....

Back to my March/April trip to S. Utah and an early morning image from our campsite out at Murphy's Point (up on the Island in the Sky of Canyonlands NP) which we had all to ourselves. The point, not the park of course ;-)  That's the White Rim and the Green River down there somewhere in all of those layers. I liked the hints of blue shadow amongst all of that warmth. Windy spot though.

f6.3, ISO-200, 229mm, 1/320 sec, tripod.

I like all of the layers and the low sun angle producing the shadows.  Nicely done.

Really enjoying the dappled light in this image. The warm and cool tone interplay is really nice. Very well presented!

A lot to like about this image. Nice early light, nice play with the shadows and light, beautiful colors and textures.

Fine imaging of a wonderful opportunity, Dave.  That place can be magical, like this is.

I agree with you about the combination of warm and cold tones being the star of this image, although I really appreciate the shapes in the rocks as well. Well worth a windy night!

A striking study in light and shade, with the eye kept moving nicely across the frame ( though maybe a perspective with a feature in particular focus might also have worked ).  Love the overall tonality.

Dave:

Easy to pick out the White Rim, had the adventure of taking that 100 mile exploration a number of years ago. I like the use of a long focal length to pick out an effective statement of the essence of the land.

Dave, This is very nicely done! I love the contrast of the cool and warm color this has. The layer are very interesting with all the wonderful lines, shapes and textures. Great Light!

Hi Dave,

This image calms the soul, and I love the light, depth, and layers. The layers of light and shadow are very effective in creating depth and contrast. The light and the way the light brings out the color in the beautiful hills is wonderful.

Sweet work

Dave, you caught some great light here.  It's really setting of the shapes and the warm tones in the rocks plus the layers feel like they go on forever.

Really like this Dave.  A beautiful image from a sensational place.  Love the layers of light, shadow, and color.  I could also see a little off the top to eliminate the dead space top left.

Appreciate everyone's comments!

I agree with the cropping suggestion, Gary. I took some off the top and some off the left edges to maintain ratio more or less. I wanted to keep as much as the red cliffs on the top as possible so there is still some of that dead space but not as distracting as before. The crop also reduced that black area on the left edge so two birds with one crop.  Thanks much...

Nice image, Dave. I feel that the small crop does help the image.
