Soaring

Another from my James River eagle shoots. The bald eagle is a lot easier to photograph when it is just flying. When they are coming in to grab something it is amazing how fast they are. Even 8 fps cannot grab it all. Someone summed it up----practice, practice, practice. Is the crop OK ? I wanted some space around the eagle.

Nikon D700 and Nikon 200-400. F 7.1 1/3200 ISO 280

Suggestions, critiques and comments all appreciated as I try to improve my birds in flight images.

Andrew, I see nothing to complain about here, except you seem to have more Eagles than we do! Perfect turning shot, good detail, whites under control, a simple comp with properly placed subject.

They say the James River area has made a huge comeback in their bald eagle population with an estimated 313 new chicks this year. Experts claim the population is close to what it was in Colonial times. Each nesting couple has their own area as you know. Amazing to watch them teaching their young how to fish. Love it.

Hi Andrew,

Very nice.  I like the transition of color in the tail. A very clean image with an ideal placement of the subject.devil..........Jim

Lovely wing position and perfect exposure, Andrew.  The composition works for me, though I did debate whether higher in the frame would be more effective.  I ended up considering it a toss-up.
