Storm's Edge

Last fall, I drove down to the Yellowstone River, near Emigrant, MT to catch a sunset, only to get caught in a small thunder shower.  As I hid in the trees to stay sort of dry, the storm moved on, leaving me with this view along a river backwater that included a hint of a double bow as well as some rain still falling.  The sunset turned out well also, with a view posted here (http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=225397&CGISESSID=d50d9dc63c99a0c53f4d6e83546df450&u=1300).  (5D3, 24-70 mm @ 25mm, 1/8s, f/10, iso 200, tripod and polarizer)

Testing the linking with a shorter version that hopefully will open in a new window.  http://tinyurl.com/PVsunset

This is lovely Mark!  Right place, right time.. What could've been a wash-out turned into a pot-o-goldblush

Really like the hint of a second bow there too. Excellent comp, details, textures, and color..

You da man!devildevil

Hey Mark,
Staying dry is sometimes not so easy but get'n wet can be worth it when the results are as good as this. Great scene and the Rainbows are a bonus. The sunset image is also a classic. My only question is: "Where is the Boat Ramp" ?

Mark, this is a rewrite here. The new site setup I keep losing my place when linking to other images. Totally my own fault.

The rainbow is placed perfectly here and looks like it links up with the convergence of the river in the BG. The larger version has excellent cont / sat, the smaller version seemed a bit flat. But the larger version comes to the rescue as always. As for the sunset, it's a real winner, although when I viewed the larger version there is where I got myself lost and had to rewrite this comment......sad

I love all of the complementary arcs in this composition, Mark... the rainbow, the trees, the water and grass edges. Sweet. I also like how the rainbow is broken up and the fact that you can tell that it is still raining over there.

Mark, I like how the rainbow arcs over the rounded treellin and how the grassline continues the bow's curvature below.

Love this, Mark !  Such a delicate, subtle range of tones, enhanced by the detail in the rocks and grasses.  Nice capture - and a real mood to the image.
