Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4 + 1.4 Teleconverter, handheld on ground
f8, 1/800, ISO320

A common nesting bird on gravel bars and one of my favorites. He was doing his best to lead me away from his kids. Photographed in evening light.

70% of full frame. Selective sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Nice low angle for this one, Jim.  Superb detail in the head.  In retrospect a bit more dof would have been nice, but for this large a bird, this large in the frame, it might not have been possible.

The only thing I dislike here, Jim, Is the small piece of grass crossing right in front of both legs. I don't usually find environmental elements an issue and am not a proponent of allot of cloning, but I would probably break that rule here. I completely understand leaving it in, however. The shallow DOF does minimize it some and the tack sharp focus the eye pulls me back to head.

Nice work.

I like the low perspective Jim. Also nice job of getting this with such a clean BG since it looks like you had some things to contend with. My only nit is a wish for a touch more DOF to get those little feet sharp. but that is pretty minor IMO.

Theres a lot to like here Jim. The included habitat, nice soft oof bg. The sharpness of the Plover is very nice. I agree with Neil's comment regarding removal of the twig crossing both legs if you're into that. Really nice work.
