This handsome fellow was on his way to his nest with a bill full of bugs and stopped briefly to make certain I was no a threat. He gave me two frames and left. In non-breeding plumage, this looks like a completely different species.
50% of full frame, selective sharpening to bird, brightened about 10%.
C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

9 commentsI just can't resist a bird with a beak full of bugs. Wonderful shot, great pose, and nice to see some of the bird's habitat included.
Superb detail, Jim, with an excellent pose and composition. Excellent image.
Nice composition and sharp detail in the bird.
Really nice head turn and good techs on what looks like an overcast day with not much light to work with. BTW...you have a couple dust bunnies on the left top. Jim, you probably already know this, but in case others don't....in LR if you click on the spot remover, underneath the image on the Tool Overlay bar, is a check box you can select called visualize spots. It makes it very easy to spot the bunnies from quick removal.
I'm with Jim Jim, hard to resist a beak full of bugs
Great pose & POV, sharp details
Kurt - Out of focus bugs, Kurt, not dust bunnies. But the LR tip is a useful trick. As the collection in the Backpoll's bill suggests, the bugs were pretty bad.
Very nice pose. I like the orange legs as a contrast to the black and white warbler.
Impressive, Jim.
Your technique has to impeccable to be shooting at an effective focal length of 700mm at 1/640 of a second, hand held and then cropping 50% and still getting this kind of quality. Impressive indeed!
Wondeful composition that includes both habitat and behavavior, excellent detail in the bird, and a very pleasing background. Well done.
