The Other Side of Sunset

Just an edited version of yesterday's image with cropping tweaks suggested by you.  THANKS FOR ALL YOUR THOUGHTFUL COMMENTS.  Sorry about posting a nearly identical image, but this is the one I want in my gallery.  The original wider version will be automatically deleted 35 days after posting, but I apparently can't delete it before that happens.

Please click on the photo above to see the larger version.

While camping on the island in the center of this view, I paddled to a spot with a nice foreground for sunset.  That sunset turned out to be disappointing because the clouds had moved east, leaving a rather plain red/pink glow on the western horizon.  The clouds that had moved on were now to the south, and they caught those colorful rays nicely.  Even with nothing in the foreground but water, I like this sunset shot that I took without looking toward the Sun.

Original Note Regarding Wider Image Posted Before This One:  Not sure about this composition, however.  I wonder if I should crop off that stray cloud on the left.  If I did that, I think I would have to take some off the right side, too, to balance it.

UPDATE:  After the comments from NPN members, I wondered why I posted a wider version of this image instead of the crop that I mentioned above.  I wanted to delete my original post and replace it with the cropped one.  I thought we now had the ability to delete a post after someone commented on it, but that did not happen, so I posted this cropped version the next day, since this is the one I want in my Gallery. This older one will disappear after 35 days.)

Here's a small copy of the original, wider version.  Thanks to all who suggested the cropping changes!

The tighter view is a good improvement, Wayne.  The colors and feeling of sunset in this are gently spectacular.  I especially like the sheen from the reflections in the water and how their colors shift from left to right.  I'm relaxing just looking at this!

I'm OK with this one Wayne, I thought you were cropping more from the right. Really it was the cloning of the stray cloud on the left that made the difference in the comp, with very subtle cropping from both sides.

I agree with Dave. The cloning of the small cloud created a more cohesive composition. The restructuring of the frame dimensions improved it as well.

A beautiful view, it's great to shoot from the water if you can.  Feels a little heavy on the left, but only a minor point.  I'm not sure if a crop off the right would be of any advantage.  The rippled color is a bonus to the nice clouds and color.

I like the image. Nice composition and an unusual cloud. But I think the feeling you have captured is what draws me.

Wayne, I'm having a difficult time deciding which I like better, but I think I'm leaning slightly to the original version.  Either way, it's a beautiful image.

I saw your comments about the original auto-deleting after 35 days.  I can delete it for you if you would like me too.  Just let me know.

This version does look that much stronger, Wayne.  A very beautiful image with an excellent range of tones and the perfect position for the horizon line.  Above all, this captures the mood of the time of day so well !!

Love it ! The clouds have 3D feel and one feels like floating with them.

This image puts me right in the middle of the lake with you.  I prefer this over the original because it feels a bit more cohesive.  Nice job with hand holding this 3 shot blend.  Love the lake level view.

Wayne, my preference is for the edited version. I like seeing the increase of foreground water to catch the reflection of the cloud.  I could see a tiny crop off the top of the sky making the view seem wider.

Wayne,

Nice job on this. Great DOF at 5.6. I like the cropped version better.
