After some rain, steep little brooks deep in the woods were running swiftly, so this tiny pool stood out. I tried to catch both the still and swift water in the same shot. Now that I think about it, the tiny pool might have been more noticeable if I had used my 14 mm. lens, but then the rapids may have been too small(?). If I get back there in the right conditions, I may try it again. But I don't think many people find tiny brooks very exciting. Do you think it's worth a second try?

7 commentsI definitely urge you to return. This is a beautiful little scene, and the pool up close with reflection could be nice.
Yes, small brooks are always nice I think, and always a great opportunity to fill up my water bottle! So definitely give it another go! Maybe try using a polarizer as well? I usually think these scenes benefit from polarizers. It would probably make those nice green mosses stand out a bit more.
I like this image a lot, Wayne. If you are like me, I tend to always go back and try to get even more from a location once I've seen my initial attempts. Seems something stands out that I had not thought of the first time around. In this instance, that little reflective pool could pay some nice dividends. Looks like a tight area to work in but good luck should you go back.
Yes, it worths a second try. I love those brooks with small rapids or cascades. There is always a surprise because everything is changing very fast like a log that falls will change its path. Very nice catch with the green around and the contrast with water. I like it.
The strong diagonal flow of the creek works very well here, Wayne. This looks like a beautiful brook, especially surrounded by such a nice collection of greens. I like the clarity of the water in the slower sections and how that is set off nicely by the small section of white water at the top. I'd definitely go for repeated visits, this looks like a scene well worth exploring photographically.
I like the sense of energy from this image from both the diagonal lines and the movement of water. I find the pool of water distracting from the overall subject yet I can see how having something in that area would add to the composition. Overall I think it's just too bright.
This is a beautiful intimate scene. I especially love the reflections in that small pond on the right I would definitely go back there again, though I agree with you that not a lot of people find this exciting......
