I took this photo a year ago for my Portfilo show at Century College. I used my D3100 nikon camera. I don't remember at the moment what my camera settings were at. When I find out I'll let you all know.

Great first post CaraLee. I like your "in my face" presentation of this beautiful lily. Good detail, color and complementary background. Would suggest a slightly different composition. The bud on the upper left is touching the edge of the image's frame so I think a little tighter crop all around would make the bud and the cut off petals look like it was done on purpose. Can't wait to see your next post.

Hi CaraLee. Welcome to NPN. Way to come in with a flair! I like the bold colors. The comp looks good to me. It would be ideal if the tips of the petals were not cut off, but then the entire lily would be smaller and not have the same visual impact. Hard to get close to these amazing lilies and not cut off the petals. Good job getting the lily sharp from tip to tip, and with getting all the posting techs downpat with your first post. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

CaraLee - Welcome to NPN and the Flora Gallery. Great First post. Apart from what Scott so nicely stated, I really like the dynamism here provided by the tilt in the Lily. I am perfectly alright with clipping the petals for the sake of magnification.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome to NPN and the Flora Gallery, CaraLee. Excellent first post! Good focus, texture and color. I am ambivalent about clipping the petals. A square crop could have accomplished just as much magnification and added to the beauty of the flower. Patricia's suggestion of a tighter crop is also a good one.

Hey Caralee,
Sweet detail, color and lighting on this Lilly. The DOF is excellent and from the looks of this image, I am assuming you had no wind to deal with. I would love to see the Tech information for this shot to perhaps learn a few tricks from you for my next Lilly encounter. The large version is a must see and as mentioned, Welcome to this serious crowd of Photographers.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work . . .

I think others have made some very good comments, CaraLee. I will just add my view on how well the petals and centre of the flower are captured - against a lovely multi-coloured backdrop. Hope you will keep posting !!!!
