The first time I saw these Lions they were in a coalition of 10 males, luckily for everybody else they splt into two groups.
In common with most Lions eyes open was an impossibility, and the light was a little harsh, but how often do you see 5 males?

9 commentsI don't believe I've ever seen five male lions in one image before. Lukily, most are almost in the same focal plane. I like the way they are all looking at you. I believe they are thinking "dinner". (smile)
There are two things I like about this image. All of the lions are looking at you and the environment of the wide open plains they live in.
Jerry and Richard,
Thanks for your comments, they are much appreciated
I think you made a good composition, but I agree the harsh lighting is the biggest detraction.
Nice sighting . . . it has been a while since I last saw a coalition like this. Nicely presented Ken !
What a sight! Agree about the light, at least they weren't sleeping.
Where was this, Ken?
Morkel.
Sorry I forot the location, it was somewhere in the Southern Serengeti.
Lon & Mario,
Thanks very much
I agree the light could have been kinder
Five males in a coalition would be an intimidating sight indeed and to capture them all in the same frame and all looking at you, not sleeping is quite a feat; harsh light or not. Just got back from two weeks in Kruger and we found a coalition of four males but they never got close enough to get more than two in the same frame at a time and never looked in the same direction but still quite a sight to see. Well done handling a difficult and often unhelpful subject.
James,
Thanks very much for your comment. hope you enjoyed Kruger, back to Hwange in October
