These nasturtiums from my garden have been played with in PS, and Perfect Effects 8, and other textures.
I'm not quite sure when something is considered "Photo Art" as opposed to "Flora." Can someone please elucidate? Would this photo be considered in the "Flora" gallery?
Thanks in advance for any comments and also ways this image could be improved.

7 commentsKathy, I think the answer to your question lies in how much and what type of manipulation you apply in post processing. For me, as long as the adjustments are in brightness, limited cloning, subtle color tweaks, and possibly some blurring then I think it could go in flora. In this image, it looks like there's some "movement" that was added in post processing at which point I'd say it has become photo art. (As an aside, I think you could easily argue that most of the images posted to this web site are photo art in that they're intended to be an artistic representation of the natural world.)
You've got an attractive color scheme and the added motion works well at focusing my attention on the flower center (lower left), which is nicely sharp. For me, the colors and your processing create a sense of foreboding as I can imagine the sharp area being the mouth of a science fiction critter....
Kathy - this definetly belongs in Photo Art. By adding textures, this image would probably have been moved from the Flora Gallery to the Photo Art Gallery by Bill, Phil, or Ramamohan (the Flora Gallery moderators). Thanks for posting, this has lovely colors.
The use of textures brings this image into Photo Art because it combines two images, one of which may or may not be taken by the photographer. The general adjustments, crops and small area of cloning are fine for floral but once you go beyond realism, add canvas or use a software program to an extreme point (such as the vignette in the image I posted last week), it becomes photo art. Everyone has their own standard, but that sort of sums it up for me.
Thanks, everyone. Glad to know that I got it in the right gallery and I think it's pretty clear when a photo has become "photo art," though we all want our photos to be artistic!
