Wild Hudson, First Snow

Haven't posted for a month while I was out shooting, and spending indoor time switching computers.  While organizing my files, I found a few older shots that I have not posted before.

In early December, the temperature rose above freezing following some overnight snow.  It was pretty exciting shooting the next day, because I was continually bombarded by large clumps of wet snow.  Between jumping to protect my camera from snow bombs, I did manage to capture this moment when a thin spot in the cloud cover made for some interesting light.

Canon 5D3
Canon 24-105mm.
Four exposures merged for exposure and depth of field.  f/11; ISO 320

Beautifully done, Wayne.  Perfect balance of brightness and contrast, and the comp has great depth.  Well done all around.

Nice job Wayne!  A good use of multiple images, the foreground texture of the individual flakes add a lot. The best manipulation is always that does not appear to have been modified!

Wayne, I really like this. I enjoy winter a lot and this gives that very peaceful quite feeling for a fresh snow. I like the composition.

Real nice, Wayne. The blending worked beautifully, too.

Marvelous image Wayne. I really can't think of anything to say to improve this. The sharp definition of the foreground snow provides a lot of interest. The sunlight breaking through that very fine sky adds a lot to a sky that was already good. Often you see images with the sun's rays blasting through the clouds but this more subtle capture is more realistic and pleasing, at least to me. Would have liked for the large version to be larger.

Here the water line bisects the vertical image but you don't feel that two part split because the reflects cross and recross that line of demarcation. Image is well constructed.

Love the hats of snow that the rocks are wearing! I am also very fond of the subtle corona around the sun, both in the sky and in the reflection in the water. It's a small detail, but a very nice one if you ask me. Great winter image.

Oh what a great image, beautiful work, Wayne. Wobnerful depth to the image. Love the highlights in the sky and its reflection next to the foreground rock. Lovely Maple leaf also.

Geez, Wayne, it's not even summer and you've already got snow "up in the North Country". enlightened  The focus on the foreground rocks and all of the snow details there are great.  Then you've got all the depth as the river turn the corner into the distance.  Excellent job of blending.  I like this as presented, but I can see an alternate take cropped from the top to just above the mountains.

I really like the mix of warm and cool tones Wayne.  The detail in the fluffy snow is also wonderful.  I glad you found this in your archives.
