Title should be "Free Fall." Amazing how these graceful, beautiful birds can look so awkward at times. He even has a look on his face saying "Oops...whats going on here?" Technically sound, good white control and details retained.

I have a few shots just like this. It's interesting that when viewed real time, these guys are very graceful. However, sometimes when you look at individual images from a shutter burst, these guys can look pretty goofy. I have several like this. Is it just me or does this guy have exceptionally big feet?

Very funny to see, as Jerry explains, these stills show sometimes totally different birds as it were... Great catch Ken ! Cheers, Hans

Like the detail in the whites and the big feet -- shows there can be a funny side to nature -- invited the family to see this "look at me I can jump" shot

My guess is a Great Egret (the "White" was dropped out of the name a few years ago), although the feet look abnormally large. A good shot, anyway.

So far as I know, the Great Egret is the New World name for the species, and the Great White Egret is the Old World name. Made me smile, Ken. Jerry Austin has it exactly right. One of the world's most cosmopolitan species.
