I recently found a small band of Mississippi Kites next to a lake in Fort Worth. I have been trying for some time to capture some decent images. They were either too far away or the light was not with me. Today, I managed to catch some decent light along with a perched kite that was not too far away. While there are many kite images posted on NPN, I did not see any Mississippi Kites. Perhaps this is the first one. Processed using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC 2014. I cloned out a few errant branches in the lower left corner. Comments and critiques welcome.

6 commentsExcellent, Jerry. It even chose a gorgeous perch for you. Detail in the Kite looks good and it's a nice pose with great light in that red eye.
Jerry: excellent in every aspect. Techs, perch, subject and composition are spot on. The light grey background adds substantially to the subject as it serves to compliment and accentuale the bird. A blue sky background would possibly have competed with the bird. It's a wow vieing expewrience. Richard
Really nice Jerry. Great placement and the perch looks cool too. Well done!
I prefer this shot to the one you posted later. Better angle, better contrast betweeen the head and sky, and a slightly more interesting pose. I really like the detail in this shot. Well done.
This is a sweet portrait Jerry
I'm with Jim, this one edges the other a bit. Although I like the perch in the other photo better. The fluffed out breast feathers and spread tail pushes this one over the top for me. Excellent details too!
I like thie one even better Jerry. Nice work, no nits from me on this one.
