Cheetah Cub Descent

Hi folks. Just back from an amazing few days in the Sabi Sands.
We visited Singita and Leopard Hills and had some pretty cool sightings.

We spent some time on our last morning with a female cheetah who had 2 cubs left of her original 5 (lions killed 3!) - and these cubs loved getting up in trees. Here one of them is jumping from a Marula trunk.

I liked the square crop with the tree beginning in top right corner. About 70% of full frame image.

Techs:
Nikon D800
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f5.6 | 1/1000 SS | ISO-320

Very well executed frame, Morkel. The DOF is spot on. Great unintrusive background and good light. I'm curious as to which focus mode and technique you used. The only issue for me is that I can't tell if the cub is running away from something or playing. That makes it a little harder to relate to the shot.

Cheers,

Hisham.

Superior timing and a great subject make for a good result.  I like the many angles and the curled tail.  In perfect world, one could wish the oof grass stems didn't come from behind his head.  This will have lots of emotional appeal for a broad audience.
