Hi Todd,
I have seen this species, but never was able to photograph one. I like the pose as the bird is checking you out. I would work on the blacks around the face to pull up some features that are lost--not much is needed. I would reduce the saturation of the bright green blotches in the BG as the final adjustment. Other than that, the jay is wonderful and this will make a beautiful print......................Jim

Gorgeous bird, great pose and detail. Good eye contact as well. I agree with Jim on the blacks and the blotches. The crop is tighter than I care for. If you have or could make a little more canvas on the top and on the right, it would be a significant improvement.

Todd,
Thanks for sharing this image with us. Like others I have never seen this species before. Jim gave you very good advice about how to improve the image. One more think I would do is to dodge around the margins of the eye to make it stand out more. Nice catch-light.

I like this image, especially the pose and the detail in the feathers. I agree with the others on the improvements.

Nice detail in the Jay, Todd, and I really like the perch. Perfect exposure of that blue crest.

Great eye contact and feather detail here Todd, maybe a touch more detail in the blacks (not easy with this species). The tight crop doesn't bother me here and I think it works reasonably well in this case.
