During my Africa trip a few years ago, I was lucky enough to spend a week in a small village on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro. On one of my explorations of the mountain, I came across this little girl. Her name, I learned later, was Salah. My friend Bob was speaking to her mother at the time this image was captured. She is staring at Bob, as I am pretty sure she had never seen a white person before. I just loved the expression on her face. Her cloths were dirty and worn, but she was just so beautiful. Salah lived with her mother and siblings in a small mud hut. After I returned to the states, I printed an image and mailed it to my friend Bob. He found them again and gave her mother this image.
This image was taken with a very old Sony camera. At the time, I did not have professional quality equipment. I thought that it turned out pretty well however. I think it works by virtue of the subject and not so much on the quality of the image.

This is a wonderful portrait--very candid and appealing. I bet that her mom loved the picture. Good job with the old Sony......................Jim
You captured her expression of rapt attention. It is a wonderful candid portait of a beautiful child.
Wonderful story and image here, Jerry. A face of pure innocence. Glad to hear you took the time to send the family a copy of this photo too. They probably would not have an opportunity to enjoy a small treasure like that very often......
Excellent. Great expression on her face and great light. I bet her mother was thrilled with the print.
In the end, the camera is the least important thing in photography. The most important thing is the Vision.
