Tulip Abstract

by scott lanz

Gallery: FloraPosted May 14, 2015155 views15 comments

A different style of tulip abstract, focusing on the underside of a parrot tulip and a background of grape hyacinths, and using backlighting from overhead direct sunlight (image taken at 12:26 pm). Image cropped from original. Let me know if it works. Tulip abstract, Fellows Riverside Garderns, Youngstown. D600, 150 macro, 1/320, f16, iso 400, hh.

It has the appearance of a splendid pendulous drape in the horizontal version, Scott, while the vertical does not really work for me.  The colour harmonies - the fiery reds and yellows seeming to overwhelm the sombre blues and greens - are very striking.  I like this very much devil

Thanks, Ian. I did not care for the vertical either, so I just deleted it.

This is REALLY cool, Scott.  Great glow, excellent colors, and really nice lines.  I like it a lot.

Looks like flames flowing across the sky, Scott.  Lovely colors, lots of drama and very well set off by the background along the bottom.  Excellent!

Scott - I did see the vertical earlier and would have loved for other members also to see, as a matter of comparison. I feel if you had included a little more of the petal start on the right, the vertical would have won hands down.

Great use of the light and leading lines. I think you are beginning to get a feel for these abstracts. If possible use a short focal length lens, handheld to see what kind of views are possible when you are real close to the Tulip.

Thanks for the tip, Ram. I have a couple other vertical images of this tulip, so I'll probably post one of those.

The Nikon 60 macro is on my wish list. l wasn't actually looking for the type of abstract you shoot when I shot this one. However, I was emulating your type of tulip abstract last weekend. I have yet to upload those images, but I do think I would fare better with a shorter focal length.

It works for me, the soft curves and the strong but harmonious color contrast are beautiful.

Wowfrown  I really like thisdevil.  The reclining view is a great touch.  And the BG with purple and green is fantastic.  Can't think of any suggestions for this one.  Great job!  And, you left just enough of the veining detail in the flower to keep my eye moving.

Scott: Inspired comp IMO with just the right amount of BG. The BG is wonderful BTW and is a very nice complement to the bloom. 2+ thumbs up! >=))>devil

Beautiful layers and glow, Scott. I also like the 'semi-abstract' feeling. Nice work!

As Ian said, it has the appearance of pendulous drapes. Lush colours, and a very appealing composition. I love shots like this. I must do more myself.
