Another shot from Nome 2 years ago. This was one of my favorite birds to photograph up there, they are quite animated and I love the plumage which is transitioning from winter to summer in June.

Ptarmigans are great - and this one is no exception. However, some people couldn't care less: I think it's one of those love them or hate them species . Anyway, great shot, nice pose and angle of view ! Good that you did not remove the twigs, they show about the habitat. Great piece of work , Hans

Absolutely love this one, Nate! These guys are on my bucket list, and you sure showed this one off beautifully here. Gorgeous light and textures here.

Very cool bird Nate. I like the composition as it describes this bird's habitat well, and the calling pose adds a nice sense of drama to the image too. Looks like you may have gotten wet making this one.

Nate: really like how you've captured the colors and details of the bird in the soft light of this overcast day. I like the action as well. Richard

Sweet calling pose you captured of this sooggy fellow Nate. I like how the grasses frame the ptarmigan. I am looking forward to hearing their comical voices again in a few weeks.

That is some wild plumage, Nate. Looks like a dress out of the 1800's or something. Nice pose.
