Blue & White Morning

This may be too late for the ground level challenge due to the Alaska time zone but I thought I'd post it anyway.

I shot this Tuesday with the challenge in mind.  It was 6:30 AM and I was on the way to work.  I had snowed wet, slushy snow during the night but was clearing and the sun was lighting up the peaks and the clouds.  I couldn't resist stopping to grab a shot at the river.  I held the camera out at arms length about 4 inches from the slush on the water to get this perspective. Unfortunately, I needed some shutter speed because of the difficulty holding the camera steady while hanging over the water so I compromised the aperture a bit, resulting in the very near foreground being out of focus.

Gary, yes, it's too late.  That doesn't take away from the fact that it's a beautiful view.  I'm really enjoying all the texture in the slush along the bank of the river, all the fresh snow on the ground, the tree reflections in the river, the sun hitting the clouds and peak, and the long view down the river.  I sure haven't noticed the foreground softness.  If you'd like, I can move this to landscape

Thanks, Mark.  Go ahead and move it to Landscape. If the rule was one image post per calendar day instead of per 24 hours I could have posted it earlier.

Beautiful perspective and light - it perfectly transmits the sense of a new day. The out of focus foregorund is not a big deal, in my view, as the rest of the image really pulls your eye away from it. cool

A simple crop to just below the reflected trees would solve the OOF issue and not compromise the image in the least. Beautiful scenic photograph.

Beautiful Gary! Not quite fitting to the season we have here in Austria, but it is "cool" to see such scenes any time. The pristine and calm atmosphere is what makes this work so well for me.

Very peaceful and serene. Nice scenery to behold on your way to work!  Real nice.

Could you have boosted the ISO instead of opening up? The DOF looks fine to me at web size, but was just curious.

This is a wonderful image Gary that definitely portrays a sense of cold but as others have said, also a sense of peacefulness.

Gary, I like this alot. It has such a nice feel and i like the quietness of it. The oof foreground really doesn't bother me but a crop as Dave mentioned would work too. Nice work!

Harley,  I asked myself the same question after I was down the road about a mile.  The problem is that old habits die hard.  My old camera (Sony R1) got pretty noisy on higher ISO settings so I always avoided it.  My new camera (Sony a6000) does quite a bit better with higher ISO settings but Its still new to me and I keep forgetting to take advantage of it cheeky

Hi Gary,

This image has that wonderful feeling of absolute peacefulness winter can bring to the soul. The image conveys a sense of stillness, I love. I would slightly crop up from the bottom to help with the oof area.

Sweet view

Beautiful scene.  The blueness emphasizes the temp quite nicely.
